The Rotary Club of Mount Pleasant welcomes you to the 29th Annual Mount Pleasant Rotary Soccer Classic, presented by Harris Teeter, to be held on Saturday, February 9th, 2013 at Blackbaud Stadium on Daniel Island. Gates open at 9:00 and matches will run from 10:30-7:00. Admission for adults is $4 and children are free.
The annual Soccer Classic serves as our club’s major fundraiser and the kick-off to the high school soccer season. The Soccer Classic is a family event and has become a Lowcountry tradition and allows the Mount Pleasant Rotary Club to provide:
- Lowcountry Food Bank with funds to fight childhood hunger through Backpack Buddies. Thousands of local students go home hungry each weekend. Backpack Buddies distributes backpacks full of nutritious, calorie rich food to over 2,300 students weekly at over 49 schools.
- Scholarships to local high school seniors and adults for continuing education. Each year, $9,000 is awarded to students attending four year colleges and $3,000 is awarded to students attending Trident Technical College. In the last 10 years, the Rotary Club of Mount Pleasant has awarded more than $120,000 in scholarships for local students.
- Free new shoes to local children through Happy Feet and dictionaries to all local 3rd grade students through our Dictionary Project.
- Financial assistance to other established local charities such as Meals on Wheels, East Cooper Community Outreach, Crisis Ministries, Water Missions International, as well as others that are serving our community.
- Support through Rotary International's multimillion-dollar efforts to eradicate polio and fund Alzheimer’s research, in addition to the hundreds of other large-scale international projects to improve the lives of people everywhere. To date, Rotary International has vaccinated over 2 billion children worldwide against polio.
- The Soccer Classic allows your businesses to gain significant community marketing exposure while supporting several worthy causes through our civic club.
